Why isn't anyone saying it?

The players hold that they should not be responsible for fixing the owners mistakes of rampant spending through the late 90s. I agree to a point. However the problem needs to be fixed and I think even the union has come to realize this (hence the 24% rollback idea). So the players say we roll back, put in a tax and you govern yourselves. Sounds good. At least it would sound good if it weren't for the late 80s (how many times must the late 80s come back to haunt us?). Baseball owners were sued by their players union for collusion in the late 80s and had to pay the union a settlement of 280 million dollars. The baseball owners tried to govern themselves just like the NHLPA is asking the NHL owners to. Obviously this is a big problem for the owners who do not want to pay out a large settlement down the road. Why is the league not bringing this to everyone’s attention? Seems to me that most people are for the owners right now, and I don't see how you could support the players if you knew what they were asking was impossible.
